About Sandra Wire and K9FunTime
I love animals! Since the day I came into this world, I have been surrounded by animals. Growing up, I knew I wanted to work with animals: including dogs, horses, and cats. Horses came into my life when I was about 12. My mom and I began taking riding lessons. Shortly thereafter; I was given my first dog Belle, a Border Collie, for my birthday. I have been happily training and handling dogs every since that day.
From 1980 to 1994 I taught 4-H kids to train their dogs. I held obedience classes for Indy Parks, I work at several stables grooming, and training horses. I had the proud pleasure of working with the greatest horses of all, the Clydesdales. In handling those huge animals, I learned that “force” wasn’t going to get you very far. You have to handle these gentle giants with wisdom and kindness.
In 1994, I began working for the Humane Society of Indianapolis. Within 6 months I became a kennel supervisor. I continued to grow and advance in the organization. In 1999, I was given the task of managing the Indianapolis Animal Care and Control Kennel. Upon returning to HSI I was promoted to Shelter Operations Manager. Throughout my ten years at HSI, I continued to teach obedience classes and train dogs.
I am currently the Owner and Chief Operator of K9 FunTime, LLC.
It has been a long time dream of mine to own and run a business such as this and to help pets and owners to live long, happy lives together!
I have successfully trained, competed and titled multiple dogs with multiple A.K.C. (American Kennel Club) titles.
I have successfully completed the Purdue University DOGS! Course. This intensive five day course covers the principles and techniques of behavior modification.
In 2011, I will sit for the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers, Certified Professional Dog Trainer examination, earning the Certified Professional Dog Trainer - Knowledge Accessed (CPDT-KA) credential.
This is the only objective certification offered for Professional Dog Trainers in the United States.
I am qualified to teach and to test owner/dogs for the:
• A.K.C. S.T.A.R. Puppy Program;
• A.K.C. Canine Good Citizen Program (C.G.C.); and
• A.P.D.T.’s C.L.A.S.S. program.
I have more than 35 years experience training dogs and teaching students to train their own dogs.
